About Business Expense Spreadsheet
Business Expense Spreadsheet publishes original recordkeeping files and guides for freelancers and small service businesses. The focus is a clear source trail behind each entered total.
Who publishes this site
Business Expense Spreadsheet is an independent publication. It explains manual expense records, claim forms and software choices. It does not claim accounting qualifications or personal use of the products discussed. The material is educational and does not determine an individual business’s tax treatment.
How the workbook is created and checked
The blank and worked files are original. Examples use fictional names and amounts. Formula checks include supplier refunds, month boundaries, separate company totals, project variance and an advance larger than approved claims. The calculation method follows the documented IF and SUMIFS behaviour from Microsoft and Google.
The workbook’s arithmetic has been evaluated against stated expected results. Excel and Sheets can handle import details differently, so the setup guides also ask you to check the worked file after conversion. Protection is an accidental-edit guard, not a security claim.
Editorial independence
Software comparisons use current vendor pricing, features and official help. Each recommendation states a use case and a drawback. A free tier, paid feature and trial are kept distinct. A missing or uncertain fact is left unresolved rather than turned into a positive feature.
No paid-offer links are active on these pages. If referral relationships are introduced, the relevant recommendations will carry the required disclosure beside the offer. The full explanation is on the affiliate-disclosure page.
Contact and corrections
Use the contact page to identify a source error, outdated feature or workbook fault. Include the public page URL and a fictional example that reproduces the issue. Do not send live financial records, bank details or private client information.

Verdict on our recordkeeping approach
The useful result is a file and explanation you can check. Keep evidence behind amounts and keep a visible boundary between entered records, approval decisions and tax treatment.
